BSNL broadband has gone paid for the download limits. There has been a lot of raving and ranting about the same in various forums. As if there is anything that would happen.
BSNL had this promotional scheme that would see “unlimited downloads” for anyone who was willing to sink his/ her hard earned money in the pitless coffers of government behemoth. Close on the heel of it’s launch, much of the advertisement blitzkreig was targetted towards the “Rs 500″ catchphrase. That’s roughly about $10. I remember some “telecom anal-ysts”(yeah; the hyphen is deliberate) went overboard to claim that India has “arrived on the broadband scene”.
Initial glitches apart, user reaction has been mixed. Very frankly there is no rationale for download limits. We are still far off from realising our true potentials. Elsewhere I had mentioned that BSNL is scrambling to put up billing servers( which are still not in place) and content delivery systems. Though I really wonder as to how they hope to stream live video over 256k line. To make possible the impossible?
Is the honeymoon really over for the people who had taken to file sharing et al? There is no official word as yet.
D. Maran is twitching and twiddling his thumbs, while the decision making process is perhaps stuck in the endless labyrithine valleys of government offices. Something that all Indians are used to.
