Update on Apple Mobiles

Tags: , , , , , ,

Apple Insider reports the imminent launch of Apple iTunes enabled mobile. I had earlier mentioned about the same as to how Apple wants to be a part of the convergence game.

It seems that Cingular would co brand with Apple and sell it’s phones. Win Win situation for both.

I really pity those commentators who wrote the “death knell” for the Virtual operator; this is going to be a reality sooner than later.

In any case, this is too premature to say that the same model can work for too. We are bogged down by gross inefficiencies in the sector; mobile penetration would make sense only if people take to in a big way. More than plain vanilla voice calls, data is going to be the driver for growth. In any case, there is a huge potential market that can be tapped.

Reason? US has more cell phones than landlines considering the fact that it was an early started there. Yet, it accelerates the growth of acceptance too.

India obviosuly needs to catch up on the same. The reason for this post is to explore a working model for this country. Co-branded cells would soon be a reality.

Wait and watch.
