India on the selling block

I could have used this oppurtunity to trash around the commies and the leftists of all hues who have taken over the centrestage in the governance and hence the biggest impediments in the path of reforms. Yet its not worth it. The word reforms is a misnomer. If we have a cartel of telecom operators- would that be called as “reforms”? Contrary to what messers Surjit Singh, Prakash and his muse Brinda Karat say on the national , fact is that they are jaded and improbable who have lost all relevance to the present.

Some commentators across the blogosphere were going ecstatic about the entry of in the telecom market. Fair enough. Little realising that entry of marks out the new role that they are carving for themselves in the global scheme of things. Geopolitical thinkers may differ from this currently- though they would agree on one thing. In , there are no permanent allies, only permanent interests. Commies have found a new ally in their fatherland- internal subversives who tom tom Mao’s ideologies.

It is convenient to forget the fact that is working against Indian interests. For example, the recent floods in the Parechu river were probably ’s handiwork. India being a spineless country, refused to counter the Chinese on the issue. Bit obvious. When we have foreign rulers, our “national interests” don’t really matter.

How is this related to telecom? Give any one a chance to go for your jugular and that would kill a person instantly. Telecom is our jugular- none in the world elsewhere would open up the infrastructure to such an extent they way we have done. It definitely pains me to see utter sitting up selling my country off bit by bit. Oh well, the brits ruled us for 300 years. Perhaps anything “foreign” is good for us?

Let me know.

Here is the link- article by Sunil jain. It was in the previous post- Chinese Whodunnit.

AMD-it is a matter of words. I have mentioned earlier that Chinese subsidies are harmful for this country because it is a death knell for our own ITI( the manufacturing arm- makes telephone instruments).

Plus, Chinese are intent on setting up their own equipment- in case of replacement or repair- India would have to spend it's own foreign exchange reserves. This is arguable since the coutry is brimming with the same. Yet, there is outflow of money in any case.

This is something I wanted to add in the main post- but didnt do for some reason. The fact is that Telecom equipment should follow defence- technology transfers for the manufacture. When this happens, I d keep quiet about the same!

Selling block. Well, read my earlier posts and U d know why I remain opposed to FDI in the sector.

I dont see any links on the post....But if your referring to the BSNL thing,. they are just a supplier of equipment. The competition is an American Company. Why on earth should we care if the Chinese governmetn wants to subsidise Rural wireless telphony in India? If it was an Indian company being affected by the subsidy thats one thing, but in this situation, its BSNL's responsibility to make sure that (1) they can deliver and (2) the price is the best it could possibly be. If the Chinese company in question sticks to that, I dont see how this is seling the country out.

Dunno. I think I provided the link to Sunil Jain's article. There was a major controversy about the prices part for sure.

"What is out in public domain is that Chinese have won the contract for switcing equipment and ADSL modems. They are getting very agressive for CDMA equipment-BSNL wants to set up a million lines in rural areas."

As opposed to western equipment which might be more expensive and just as good.

Are we paying them in cash or IT services :)

"This post was more on general lines- not very specific I d agree. However, fact is that we ought to be vary of the foreign direct investment flowing in this country. I am afraid that much of the funds that are being parked seems to be “hot money”- it may just flow out in case of any national emergency? Another meltdown in the making? Time would tell."

I would agree if this was currency specualtion, witness what happened in Malaysia in the late 90s. I dont fear such a thing happening here as the Rupee is not fully convertible for this same reason and also to keep it devalued so as to increase exports. I'm confident (thoug not as informed as i might like to be) that our leaders are not about to sell this country short.

Guess who is the biggest buyer of American debt, China along with Japan. It's funny when you said selling the country short this was what i thought of. This is serious as it affects US foreign policy and what they can get away with.

My impression is that the Chinese investment mentioned in this article is not such a bad thing at all. A bit of foreign investment to jump start things could be the little required to gain momentum. OF course it will help to line a few pockets as well, but we cant seem to get away from that ;)

I tried looking for sources on the Chinese investments. What is out in public domain is that Chinese have won the contract for switcing equipment and ADSL modems. They are getting very agressive for CDMA equipment-BSNL wants to set up a million lines in rural areas.

CDMA has been a money spinner for BSNL- something that isnt in the news. Given the ease of roll out and rock bottom prices, BSNL is the dark horse.

Just how big is the share that the Chinese are getting ?

Might put things into more perspective.

I dont get the context of the rant. Any rant against Commies is welcome but noetheless the context seems to be missing
