UT Starcom has set up shop in India and planning to sell its equipment to BSNL. I am not sure what the news said- whether they are in the process or BSNL has already firmed up it’s purchase. However, the success depends on BSNL sorting out the bandwidth mess with it’s ugly ex sibling- VSNL. Once the plans firm up, we might just see some reaction from Airtel.
IPTV or Internet Protocol Television is proposed to be the next best thing in UK. A BBC story is effusive about it’s potential. If you read carefully between lines, the operators are offering packages that start from 10 Mbps.
Oh well, if BSNL persists with its cheapy Chinese Huawei modems, it may loose the IPTV party for once; I believe that massive investments have been lined up to uprade the exchanges.
In Indian scheme of things, BB for the broadcasters is just what the doctor ordered. They would find a place for themselves to make more money for content delivery. For example, Sony might just plan to re run its canned programmes and earn revenue on that. Advertisements may be better targetted. The potentials are enormous.
