In these encouraging words, I found some solace.
It’s been almost over a week now and my suspicions stand true. Media is one of the most venal institutes in this nation- perhaps a shade here or there from the politicians. In the name of “breaking news” and TRP’s, it’s been paid media exposure all the way.
It’s almost a symbiotic relationship between those who are in power and those who weild the power by means of the media. This is solely because of the reach of the mainstream press. It’s ability to “mould public opinion”- at least for those who “care” to read the news. It’s deliberate distortion of facts, unresearched, biased and of course, highlighting those people from whom the publishers have to curry favours.
There are only two types of “news” that get the headlines- sex and distorted sex. True- the days are here when a man bites a dog and it no longer makes a headline.
As a watchdog, it’s supposed to be the “conscience keeper”- though its more of a lapdog. I am not naming any major publication here- they have overtly active group of lawyers who would not hesitate to send across a legal notice. Although barring a few notable exceptions like The Statesman, overall the media’s future is bleak.
It’s almost a fight between whats right and what’s not. Ultimately this blog is about principles. I refuse to have any advertisement for the same here; refuse to endorse any company, refuse to report on the “moves and shakes”- but what is clearly obvious here is the fact that as a nation we are being defrauded of our right to be connected, to have a say in the policy matters and our hard earned money going down the drain ( with no accountability).
This is what I aim and intend to hold up the mirror up for. As they say, we are a nation of gullible idiots- the expanding population adds thousands everyday without any respite. The future vote banks?
That’s why, the media prefers to “report”, in their own style of ” shock and awe”. Hair brained idiots and mental retards are hired to publish the “hand me down” press releases; favours sought from the aptly named “PRO’s” and what not.
No wonder, it was the same media who gladly accepted the planted stories for publication during 70′s and 80′s ( the Mitrokhin Controversy).
This isn’t because they haven’t acknowledged my mails. I wasn’t really expecting it anyway. However, it is an indication of the systematic rot of journalism.
