The new Telecom Policy is on the anvil. It is the usual routine- rural infrastructure ( that was focussed earlier ), and endless platitudes to “work for the betterment of the rural masses”.
What is disturbing is that the regulator is being undermined. One thing that was explicit in the draft is that Department of Telecom (DoT) is to have a “deciding” role. As if it hasn’t made the matters worse already. It is an overall part of the UPA government. For example, Dr Ramadoss was interested in having Medical Council of India to be a “department” under the Ministry of Health. Mani Shankar Aiyar is very much interested to own the Oil Corporations and hence the BIG clout. Harvard educated, he has demonstrated ability to make a fool of himself- despite careful media projections.
Mr D. Maran is very much confident that he would be able to push his agenda through. We have a prime minister who is intellectual only in the name. Perhaps, for the first time in the history of independent India, we are being ruled over by proxy. The lefties as usual have taken a centre stage, eager to impress their cadres that they still matter- despite the fact that their brains are permanently set and concretised.
At times, I am afraid of government bashing. Or perhaps even BSNL bashing. I am not very keen to get a lawsuit which would ask me to take back my “offensive” comments. How “offensive” are they anyway?
It’s anyone, except those mentioned, guess.
