Sucky Airtel Broadband

I have been on Airtel Broadband ever since I moved to Gurgaon in December 2004. It has been a good experience on Airtel. Especially when I compare it to Sify Broadband. However, the last month has been a revelation.

The company announced double speeds at night scheme. However, when I check it at my place, I find it hard to believe if that actually is happening at my place. The best I get during the daytime is around 17 KBps when I should be getting around 32 KBps. At night, the speed improves to around 25 KBps when I should technically be getting 64 KBps.

A little loss in delivery of the speed is acceptable to me. But less than half of the speeds, I should be getting? Not good. Maybe I should start Blogging on my ongoing experiences with Airtel Broadband as I did it with Sify. Or maybe I should just harass the customer care people who have the usual suggestions… Scan for viruses/worms, clean cache, restart, reinstall. What crap?

I do not need their crappy online bandwidth tester when I can see what speeds I am getting on my download manager. And I do not need to listen to stupid comments that maybe my PC is infected with a worm, which is eating all my bandwidth. I am a smart enough guy to know that speeds suck from their side and they are doing nothing about it.

Maybe instead of spending money on keeping Shah Rukh Khan advertising for them, they can invest more in keeping their existing customers happy. Instead, I get spam calls on my Airtel telephone in the middle of the night telling me about their new caller tunes feature which would enable me to let the people calling me listen to the latest Emraan Hashmi starrer movie’s song.

Finally, it’s a difference of perception. Airtel sucks but not unlike BSNL whcih sucks even more. They too have some kind of a crappy bandwidth tester and for those demented morons it’s the ultimate thing.

They couldnt bring on this crap about worms viruses et al when I confronted them with Linux. Maybe we all should shift to Linux!

Just an honourable thought to get rid of Windows! Maybe we d never be able to get the Mbps speeds that others are tired of and moving towards Gbps. One day perhaps Sushubh, you might not even need to blog on them. But then, such irritants would remain. As long as we are used to getting it in our bums, nice and simple, they would be giving it all to us.

As for Shah “kiran” rukh, that’s the perfect brand ambassador. Just as I dont like this idiot, I dont like Airtel either!

P.S. On second thoughts, Its 3 am in the morning and my thoughts are clouded by everything else!

Meh, i wouldn’t lose too much sleep over Airtel’s lack of performance atm. Try to escalate the problem ticket beyond the CC drone, 2nd or 3rd level maybe. They will fix it soon.

If i recall Susubh was whining about them a yr ago too, then all of a sudden things started working. He has been quiet till now.

    Rinse & repeat.

right. the starting days were bad due to a badly configured modem. now the problems are more related to their wirings to my house. one line is dead the other is super duper slow. but the guys keep on calling me back asking for updates and promises that they would get it fixed today.

    rocking cool update.

Hmm, i guess their lines do not go underground inside steel reinforced sheaths to your place. My neighbour one day one day decided to rip off the junction box they had installed for the office that was leasing the property. For some strange reason thought it made the building look ugly.

Whoops, there goes my conneciton, Airtel guy arrives in a cpl of hrs, they string a cable over in another 2, cpl days later they route around the neighbour and it’s all fine & working to this day.

Hey, I been using Airtel in B’lore for a while now. Pretty happy with the service. I have a 128 Kbps line and with the doubling thingy at night I get between 28 and 30 Kbps with torrents. Its cant get better that that.

    Airtel keeps Testing its connections

i have availed 128kbps connection but sometimes i get 50KBps in daytime , checked it several times and it really was 512kbps speed achieved and that too for one day .

    Yeh!
I got Free Upgrade For One Day

But Broadband Providers are not worried about their service and they are into money … Broadband should be a lot cheap …

In USA I had a 2Mbps Connection while here its just 128 kbps and poor in service .

I am also pissed of with Airtel sevices. My Landline was dead and broadband was not working , I called them , mailed them but after doing all this the complaint got resolved in 7 working day. And just to add I called to there customer care atleast 45 times from my Airtel mobile which costs me 50p/min at total talk was around 367 min.
Still I am facing the issue with there connection half of time in the day my broadband does not works.
