Nokia 6300

This is my latest acquistion after considering a lot of other factors. The recent price cuts also fuelled the decision to buy one.

I have had an excellent review of this handset; my sibling was using this handset for the past 1 year and reported no loss of functionality with it. It has a brilliant colour screen which makes it readbale in full daylight.

I wouldn’t go in the technical specifications; what got me interested was that it comes with Mini preloaded. Unfortunately, my current service provider, , has one of the lousiest access with sky high rates for access. This makes it unviable in the present context.

It would be worthwhile to shift to , as and when they launch and when the number portability kicks in. It doesn’t get better than this, isnt it? You get to retain your number and expect to look in for a better service.

There is a lot of discontent among the customers Ramesh, in USA. I am not sure whether the present situation warrants a seperate blog post because I have no means of ascertaining the truth from the user's perspectives in US. Broadband speeds are a major hindrance and so are the various mobile services.

The cell phones are indeed cheaper in India, specially the ones that have been manufactured in China. They are available for about $30-40 a peice with "free incoming life time offers" and thus addressing the bottom of the pyramid. However, these handsets have a limited life span and are very vulnerable to abuse.

As for the higher end phones, apart from Blackberry, I am not aware of bundled handsets with GSM operators. Reliance and Tatas sell their own branded CDMA handsets which are more expensive than their GSM ocunterparts.

Yeah, belatedly I realised so. Unless Hutch gives me a solid reason to stay back with them...

Phones in India really suck. If they don’t suck then they are priced exorbitantly. Reliance will be launching HTCS720. Reliance says it will cost Rs 20,000 ($500.00 approx) excluding taxes. Are they kidding? Why are the mobile phones so costly in India? Similar phone from Verizon wireless in USA costs less than $200. I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon sells this phone for less than $50.

And one more thing…
Why do the media keep repeating that the phone charges in India are rock bottom? Sprint has unlimited plan for $99. It includes unlimited local calls and long distance calls(any network, any time), websurfing, gps navigation, text messaging, and email. There are no roaming charges.

MetroPCS offer unlimited calls(any network, any time) for $30. They are truly unlimited.

How can the companies in USA offer phone services at such low rates?

Reliance Info in India has an unlimited plan. I don’t think it is truly unlimited. How can it be unlimited when the free calls are limited to Reliance mobile network? It is a sheer dishonesty.

The lazy correspondents and the media either lack intelligence or they are dishonest. In either case they should not be in that profession/business.
