Hi All,

I am an Ubuntu Linux user. I specifically asked the salesperson in the Tata Teleservices office in Bangalore for the model that is supported by Linux. This was provided. I figured out how to use the Photon+ on my Linux notebook (Toshiba L300). I use the Photon when I am at a location where there are no other methods of connectivity. Of course, I do not get the speeds promised by Tata. Also I don't seem to be getting billed more than I should with the 750 tariff plan.

i got tata photon + on aug 15 2010, the maximum speed i saw is upto 60 kbps.. now it is dead slow upto 10 kbps on average and am using my mobile to browse my emails. Do not buy any device which promise upto 3.1 mbps (upto) is a matter od concern.
i have few questions to TATA telecommunications,

1) why the hell should i pay for sharing the bandwidth with other customers while am using 10kbps (only 99 permonth on mobile users but am paying 1100 bucks)
2) if you cant provide service quit the business probably you have more other things to do to fool the people
3) am not only blaming TATA all other HISPEED providers are cheating the customers in the similar or another fashion what is the government doing on this.
4) if they dont have the signal coverage in my area why did they sell me their product.

To take more money.. These are the kind of people that spoil society and take advantage of our desire to buy their products... It is all because of lack of proper judicial system.. Untill we realise and rise companies will find india better and attractive for all the wrong reasons. And we will continue to be robbed..

Hello PB.

Just as above. File a complaint.

Get the complaint number which they are obligated to provide.

Wait for 3 days.

File RTI application stating the nature of the complaint, the action taken, file notings and that you be informed on a daily basis as to what is being done. Also ask them for the line parameters.

Alternatively, try to change your DNS servers. I am not sure what you use but for Linux (ubuntu), you could easily shift to Open DNS and trust me, the latency would be sorted out to a large extent. I did that and it has worked for me.

I hope this helps.

Let me know in case you need any further help :-)

Vodafone really sucks they are f***in assholes
Their rule says you have to recharge minimum with 200 every 6 months.....
Their net plans are useless e.g 10p/10 kb
So even if you use 1kb your bal will get deducted with 10p
+they dont support any apps except opera e.gEbuddy and nimbuzz
+and their unlimited net plans are truly LIMITED....
And there is lot more about

Hello Abhishek - I also have a BSNL broadband connection and it was working perfectly until they moved my account to NIB-II following a bandwidth upgrade. And now the connectivity couldn't get any worse. Frequent disconnections, latency going through the roof [<600 ms] and very slow speeds. I have a bandwidth of 2mbps but I rarely seem to go above 1 mbps

I have tried everything starting from emailing DGM, GM and even the CGM of BSNL [Calcutta] but to no avail.

What do you suggest in this scenario? I don't have any other option in our area like Reliance or AirTel - so I have to stick to BSNL, no matter what.

Your response would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. Easy process. File a complaint. Take the complaint number. Wait. If nothing happens, barge in the GM's office. Screw his happiness. Or best. File RTI application after 3 days. This is because as per TRAI, any fault needs atleast 3 working days.
Trust me, it WOULD work.

I never needed to file RTI. Just 3 letters were enough to screw their happiness.

Dear Sh.Abhishek, Congratulations for your success with BSNL. I also have been able to get more than 200 kbps actual download speed never witnessed till date. I daily filed complaint by 198 and kept record of complaint no. After one week, there has been dramatic change.

Dear Sh.Abhishek, At present , central communication ministery have selected four circles on priority monitoring their complaints status on broadband including my Rajasthan (having Mr.Sachin Pilot).
So , for the last five days, I have been filing complaint every day and getting fresh no.After one month, I would like file RTI on the responsible official for unresolved complaint. After RTI reply, I want to drag them to consumer court for recovery of my money paid due to poor service.
In Bikaner, BSNL sends illiterate lineman to examine ADSL light in the case of broadband complaint. I have made them clear about running youtube (uninterrupted) will be the benchmark for broadband.
You can please forward me OR take part in rti_india , Humjanenge yahoo group for RTI.
Please suggest clear benchmark for BSNL broadband to open any site/any videofile/any downloads---within a specified time.
Dataone website have speedometer which have given 50-60 kbps speed. For broadband, what is MINIMUM DESIREABLE SPEED AS PER DATAONE METER.
