Any rationale for propping up Huawei?

Tags: , , , , ,

Business Standard has done it again Throwing all logic to the winds, it has propped up Huawei again. Is this “paid exposure”?

The matter was reportedly raised in parliament. I would surely agree with the likes of companies like Lucent- who raised objections at the low cost of the telecom equipment.

It is stupidity to expect the to install bugging equipment and eavesdrop on the conversations- however, this scenario is very much possible. Why not err on the side of caution?

The likes of and are awash with funds- they can clearly absorb the higher cost of the equipment- till to date I have no idea as to how could could certify cheap crappy Huawei modems as original equipment.

Media does has it’s responsibilty- I expect the fourth estate to live up to it’s standards.

Mergers & Acquisitions

Tags: , ,

It was the mother of all acquisitions- bought out BPL for a huge sum. The details don’t matter here- the reasons behind the sales do.

It is indeed ironic- BPL had set out huge full page advertisements welcoming Hutch- it was launched under the brand name of “Orange”. It was supposed to be a fight for the customers is richest metro of this country( and worst off in case of a downpour)! Mumbai has the highest ARPU in the country; indeed a lucrative market for anyone. Ironic because it sold itself out to the same company it promised to fight to the finish.

In any case, the take over is subject to regulatory approvals. It is indeed disheartening to see the mergers in a given circle. It means less choice for the consumers and arbitrary dealings of Hutch. This wasn’t the objective of the National Telecom Policy.

This is old news though. I was wondering as to why would Chandrashekhar sell off a cash cow. I think he plans to step up in Mobile manufacture business some day- the huge growth oppurtunities in the rural areas are an incentive enough. Let’s see how this works out in the long run. Specially when BPL has made a mess of it’s brand name.

Huawei’s press speak

Tags: ,

Given the kind of publicity that Huawei has been able to notch up for itself, it is indeed expected to read their rebuttal in Business Standard. How far it’s true it’s not known. I heard that they have run in trouble with the military too. The details are sketchy and I d be grateful in case the readers point out that to me.

Had it not been for my antipathy for the Left parties, I wouldn’t have ever bothered about the Chinese or their antics. It’s scary to know that they have entered the winning bids- something that isn’t possible without the covert support of the Chinese government.
