Granted off late I haven’t published anything here. However, it hasn’t been all studies alone for me. I have been exploring the options to highlight the same in the media.
However, to what extent?
The forums in India are agog with excitement. With people teeming over with their hassles. Yet, in case there is any move to highlight the same hassle in the mainstream press, I don’t find any volunteers. Absolutely no initiative.
Primarily, forums is a glorified option to bitch. And so the blogs remain relegated to opinion show pieces where it doesn’t affect any loony soul.
I am absolutely appalled at this “risk taking initiative” where Indians feel that they don’t have to move their sorry asses out anywhere. Let someone take the cudgels on our behalf and let him/her go through trial of fire.
I must clarify that I wasn’t ever motivated with the grand delusion of doing anything good for the “public”. It was a selfish motive to see for myself a better deal for my money’s worth. The lone person’s fight against venal media, corrupt official structure and absolutely in the pits telecom companies. (It sounds good!)They aren’t the model of excellence and truly cater to the people who don’t deserve anything good because they want to make no efforts to that effect.
I am not a “citizen journalist”; the word journalism being equated with assinine attempts to bonk in mid air and have the feeling that you are screwing something good for “public good”. In all, it’s increasingly clear to me that things cannot be radical on the mainstream and that we have to operate within the narrow confines of “law”.
This is possibly an irrational outburst but better than not having one either.
Considered interests, big bucks, foreign media channels and telecom companies are raping us in broad daylight. Yet we willingly drop down our pants and allow them to screw us with gay abandon. Even asking for more!
No one, I repeat no one wants to work his way up to challange the system. This means, my voice will be limited to the blog. Things might change for the better in the future but that future is undefined. It would be more of a change to changing times than getting the satisfaction that WE as citizens demanded the change and got it.
Tough choice. The brits surely did rule effectively by leaving a huge nation of morons. The support structure that keeps the people in power to suck the entrails out of common man is very much intact.
India is a nation of zombies, my dear friends. Don’t wake them or you’ d find only dead people.
A small update:
One of the readers on this blog, suggested a word of the forums which describes this situation more aptly: APATHY. How true.
