Indian Telecom: Winds of change

Delhi High Court has said no to stay the allocation. It’s a resounding defeat for the (the motley group of morons) and decided to press ahead with ’s claims of having the right for dual licence. Further details on story here. I am quite sure that an out of court settlement would be reached anytime soon. It would not be profitable for either party to indulge in costly legal battles and manage the nosy either way.

In another significant draft notification from they have allowed for up to 74% if FDI in TV. The details are sketchy but then let’s not bother. These fossilised morons are up to no good anyway. Still, the fact remains that TV would be a reality and I am sure that a lot among you would be keenly watching midnight hour on fashion tv.

New Year Blows

This has indeed come as a shock to the existing players. Reeling under the onslaught of attention, Government is acting tough and pricey. It wants to take away the “excess” and “distribute” it to new players. , and Idea would be worse affected.

It is not clear as to what “scientific methodology” has been adopted to calculate the excess spectrum. It is not clear from the media trial either. Nevertheless, most of these telecom players must be cursing their luck to have picked up a direct fight with who played his cards very well. He first fired a salvo in the media and then finally with the government. Even Manmoron (our “esteemed” PM) had to intervene to sort out the matters. Because, in , money speaks.

I was not very keen to report something like this on the change of a calendar. Nothing seems to have changed as far as the situation on ground is concerned. The fight is going to turn more ugly unless the dumb realise that it’s better to reach out of court settlement.
