2G Scam India: Media is “compromised”

This is no laughing matter; with regards to the media, it’s purported freedom and the massive censoring in publications. No wonder, it has not become a larger issue because everyone fears that it’s utility would be questioned.

I have ranted here enough, cried hoarse over the “interest” of media in Broadband issues. Even when they take it up (in the past few years), they have made a mess of the whole thing and situation. There is no sustained campaign. No sustained interest. Scams after scams are being generated to deflect public attention and all the while Broadband or issues related to it would be relegated to background.

I have tried, on several occasions to tie up with some media house, even write in a column free of cost, just to make the voice heard. Yet, they persist with inane shit about “controversies” with reams of newsprint being focused only on the “affairs” or the crap Page 3 shit. Serious issues about competitiveness and lack of ICT initiatives (or even a discussion on it) is beyond reach.

Why? Why? Why? Why is the country fucking hostage to overgrown old idiots in TRAI with enlarged prostates? Those idiots would be content in having a rectal massage than doing something concrete. Or for that matter the fucking cobwebbed idiots stinking and rotting in their own fucking excrete in Sanchar Bhawan (or BSNL/MTNL) totally fucking devoid of any imagination to progress further than what they have.

It’s hard to imagine the glacial pace of work; now media as the “fourth pillar of democracy” has also seriously eroded. It was always alleged but this is more of a direct proof of their involvement. The worse, well, is not yet over. Barkha Dutt is being ripped apart on Twitter, blogs and everywhere; evidently no one likes her.

2G Scam India: Tainted money out of India

This is expected.

A write up in DNA.

Here’s a primer:

Funds are being siphoned off from India to tax havens by political leaders in cahoots with bureaucrats and business barons. A recent report by Global Financial Integrity, a think-tank based in Washington, suggests that nearly US$460 billion is held illegally by Indians in tax havens. This can only be an underestimate.

2G scam India: How it impacts national security

This is a rather detailed and longish post on Rajeev’s blog. I can only agree to the systematic loot.

Ignore Pranajoy Guha Thakurta’s tripe about “not being much a party to the 2G scam. He is some sort of a journalist and for all practical purposes a permanent fixture on NDTV. He is not expected to “rise up to the situation” :)

#barkhagate seems to be become a popular trending topic on Twitter. It can mean only one thing. Lots of anonymous idiots love to hate Barkha Dutt. At best, they can only vent their “anger” online. When it comes to standing up for the rights or out in voting, they would all scatter away.

For all practical purposes, Greatbong has a good write up on this loot. And all the more I agree with what he writes:

And so my friends it will continue, one wave of corruption followed by yet another larger wave, raising the shock threshold every time. Fire up your rage within 140 characters. Try make it funny and pray for re-tweets. Cause, honestly, that’s really all you can do.

Which by and large explains the current state of Indian populace. It does not matter whether it trends on Twitter or gets a mention in the mainstream media. Most of have become so callous with such oddities, that public memory is really short. Another day, another year, another scam and this too shall pass.

Which means that in this current fiasco, it would not be instructive to preach or lecture on the pathetic reach of broadband. This has also laid bare TRAI’s role as an ineffectual regulator. Easy isn’t it? Staff it with pathetic run of the mill assholes, feed them with public money and let them occasionally bark (for regulations). The real power stays in Department of Telecom and the whims and fancies of chosen few while they swindle the public money. The companies make hay while the sun shines and you as idiotic customers pay (or rather) subsidize for their “expenditure”. With media in the pocket , nothing gets mentioned or ‘intelligent submissions’ are ignored.

While we re-elect the same bastards back in power. Why the fuck don’t you even feel outraged at all this? Damnit.
